Injury and accident investigation:
 
FORENSIC  work - using engineering and ergonomics to investigate accidents and injuries to assess liability - has occupied a significant part of Mark Dohrmann and Partners'  practice since 1977.  There is a list of over 6000 cases  for you to search and inspect on this site.  We have given advice in a very wide range of industries and situations, so do have a look.

In cases where allegations of negligence are brought by one party against another, solicitors acting for plaintiffs or defendants often require expert evidence to assist them establish liability or deal with questions of negligence.

(Note - this page is written for non-lawyers too!)

Questions we have to consider as experts may include -

• What happened?
• What caused the injury? (there may be several answers to this question);
• Who - if anybody - appears to be at fault, and why?
• What common standards applied to the circumstances at the time of the injury - i.e. what if any duty of care was owed to the injured party?
• Did the injury result from a breach of this duty?
• Was the risk forseeable?  To whom?
• What practical measures would have protected the injured person from this risk?

Twenty-five years of investigation, interviews and court attendance have taught us a lot.  Grace and resilience under vigorous cross-examination requires a full grasp of the issues, all homework done, intellectual capacity, scrupulous honesty, and preferably, no ego.  You're not there to be a hero,  certainly not to take sides or to run an argument.
