The new Regulations consolidate the previous Occupational Health and Safety Regulations into one up-to-date and simplified document.
The OH&S Regulations now better compliment the OHS Act 2004 and together contribute to improving OHS in Victoria.
The New OH&S Regulations have been designed to provide easy to understand information about the obligations of employees and employers.
The main objectives of the new Regulation are to remove duplications and bring Victorian regulations in-line with National Standards, creating consistency throughout the country.
The main changes affect people involved in high-risk work. Licensing the performance of high-risk work, and following the licensing requirements of the National Standards opens the boundaries of Victoria allowing the trouble-free diffusion of skills throughout Australia.
As consultation is proven to be an effective way of achieving the best OH&S outcomes, and consultation is also mandated under the OH&S Act 2004, consultation is a main focal point and is being encouraged with this document.
There has also been a reduction in superfluous procedures to simplify the process of creating a safer workplace.
